Phil Ruck

Phil Ruck has a BSc (Hons) in Physical Geography and an MSc in Environmental Technology. Phil joined ITOPF in 2016 as a Technical Adviser, was later promoted to Senior Technical Adviser, and in 2022 transferred into his current role of Senior Technical Support Coordinator, where his responsibilities include claims co-ordination and stakeholder engagement.  

Since joining ITOPF, Phil has attended and remotely advised on many pollution incidents worldwide including spills of bunker fuel, crude oil and other substances being carried as cargo. This has involved advising on a wide variety of topics, including clean-up techniques, environmental monitoring, and compensation claims. In addition to response work, Phil has undertaken extensive claims assessment work and presented at a number of international workshops and conferences.

Previous Experience

Before joining ITOPF, Phil spent over four years working for IPIECA, the global oil and gas industry association for environmental and social issues. As part of this role, he was Project Manager for IPIECA's Oil Spill Working Group.
