National Workshop on Claims and Compensation, Malaysia

ITOPF was invited to participate in a National Workshop on Claims and Compensation organised by the Malaysian government from 17th to 19th September in response to the APL DENVER/WAN HAI incident from 2017. ITOPF was represented by Miguel Patel and Pauline Marchand, both of whom had been actively involved with the case. The workshop was attended by over 50 participants from the various government agencies, port authority, port terminal and industry players. It provided an excellent opportunity to address aspects related to the presentation and management of claims, contingency planning, as well as the international liability and compensation regime. Future cooperation between ITOPF and the Malaysian government, particularly in relation to the national contingency plan, is expected.
