Designated Person
ITOPF is funded by the world's shipowners through their P&I insurers to provide objective technical advice on effective response to marine spills of oil, chemicals, and other hazardous substances and the mitigation of damage.
Our highly experienced staff also assess claims for compensation resulting from spills, undertake contingency planning studies and produce a wide range of technical publications.
Our shipowning Members and Associates have first call on the organisation's technical services, but this is not always fully appreciated by those within shipowning companies who would be in the frontline at the time of a spill. Therefore we are keen to raise awareness of our services within the technical departments of Members and Associates and their ship management companies.
Individuals with whom ITOPF would like to establish a closer relationship are the Designated Persons, who, under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, are responsible for monitoring safety and pollution prevention aspects of the operation of their ships. As a first step in this process we invite all Members and Associates to provide contact details for their Designated Person, or equivalent specifically responsible for oil spill response.
Our short survey can be downloaded in Word or PDF form.
When we receive the contact details we will send a copy of our latest annual Handbook to the identified person(s) and add their name to a mailing list so that they automatically receive future issues of the Handbook and other relevant technical publications.
Your help in this matter would be much appreciated.
