Copenhagen Agreement Seminar

ITOPF attended a meeting of the Copenhagen Agreement in Drammen, Norway on 23rd and 24th October 2019, hosted by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. The Copenhagen Agreement between Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden facilitates cooperation for response to oil and chemical discharges in the Baltic Sea and Kattegatt. Julke Brandt and Tim Wadsworth presented on the role of ITOPF in a pollution response, focusing on ITOPF’s role in the claims process. In particular, the requirement to record expenditure clearly and the importance of reasonable activities and costs in enabling States to recover costs under the International Conventions was emphasised.
