Remote training for WMU

On Friday 24th March, David Campion and Andrew Le Masurier delivered four online lectures to 33 students on the Maritime Safety and Environmental Administration course at the World Maritime University (WMU). David and Andrew were unable to attend the previously arranged two-day course in Malmö, Sweden, due to the travel restrictions associated with the current COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, they provided a morning of online interactive lectures from their respective homes with topics including ‘The Role of ITOPF and Environmental Impacts of Oil Spills’, ‘Hazardous and Noxious Substances’, ‘Spill Response Strategies’ and an ‘Introduction to the International Compensation Regime’. The students were also confined to their residences as the WMU is currently closed.

The online session was a very worthwhile exercise with positive feedback from the lecturers and students, and further strengthens the good relationship between ITOPF and the WMU.
