ITOPF shares expertise at ADRIASPILLCON 2026
7 May 2026
The proactive exchange of knowledge and experience on preparedness for marine pollution response was a central theme at ADRIASPILLCON 2026, where ITOPF contributed its technical expertise to discussions on mitigating environmental and economic risks from ship-source incidents.
Held in Zadar, Croatia, the conference provided a platform for ITOPF, represented by Richard Johnson and Duarte Soares, to present on recent incidents it has attended. Through these presentations, ITOPF shared operational insight and practical lessons learned from advising on spills involving oil, hazardous and noxious substances (HNS), and other cargoes.
ITOPF also engaged with delegates at its exhibition stand throughout the event, discussing its role in supporting spill response and highlighting its technical resources. This included a range of materials such as Technical Information Papers (TIPs) on plastic pellets and aerial surveillance, ITOPF Handbooks, and ITOPF’s 2025 Oil Tanker Statistics publication.
With a particular focus on response capabilities across the Adriatic, European and Mediterranean regions, the conference provided a valuable opportunity for ITOPF to connect with stakeholders, exchange knowledge and contribute to strengthening regional preparedness.
ITOPF noted the importance of maintaining strong relationships within the response community and welcomed the opportunity to develop new connections during the event.
