ITOPF embarked on a tour of maritime stakeholders in Central America as part of a series of training sessions and workshops on responding to ship-source pollution incidents in partnership with the Comisión Centroamericana de Transporte Marítimo - COCATRAM and RPS Tetra Tech.

In Costa Rica, ITOPF discussed the fundamental aspects of effective spill response. Over the course of the week-long workshop, Miguel Ciriero and Marta Panero covered the evolution of a response from the initial notification and emergency phase, through to project phase, emphasising the importance of information management and science-based decision-making.

ITOPF then moved on to Guatemala, where it met with an array of government and private sector organisations to deliver another series of training sessions on marine pollution response. The event, which included a variety of presentations and interactive sessions, focused on promoting robust and well-practised contingency plans at local, regional and national levels.

In the final week of its tour, ITOPF was in Honduras, concluding the series of engagement events, with a four day workshop which includes ITOPF's table-top exercise Harmony Star and FLIGHT VR and RESPONSE MR applications.
