Responding to spills of oil and other substances requires timely and accurate information on the location, extent, and movement of a substance. Satellite imagery provides an aerial view of a spill situation and has become an invaluable tool for our technical team at ITOPF.

ITOPF's internal Mapping Modelling and Monitoring group visited Viridien, experts in Earth observation and monitoring, to take part in a knowledge sharing day at its location in Crawley. Both organisations discussed their common goals in using satellite imagery to reduce the potential impacts of marine pollution incidents and explored different ways of working together on incidents.
