Shahbaz Iftikharezaman

Shahbaz joined ITOPF as a Technical Adviser in May 2025.  He graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a BSc in Applied Chemistry and MSc in Chemistry.

Previous Experience

Shahbaz started his career in the engineering industry as an Application Engineer specialising in dry abatement technology for toxic gas removal for the semiconductor industry.

Shahbaz was also part of a scientific research team conducting several Waste to Energy (WtE) sustainability projects for four years. He collaborated with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) on these projects. The aim of the research was to find an alternative use for the waste generated in Singapore to prolong the lifespan of Singapore’s only landfill in Semakau.

Just prior to joining ITOPF, Shahbaz worked as a Port Chemist for the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). His main duty was to ensure that Singapore Port Regulations were adhered to by vessels calling into port. He conducted Gas-Free inspections on various types of vessels at anchorages. He also conducted Dangerous Goods (DG) inspections on container ships at various terminals to ensure that they complied with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) code.
