Response Arrangements

A national contingency plan has been prepared by the Ministry of Transport and is currently undergoing revision.

Response to a pollution incident is dependent upon the level of emergency. For minor pollution incidents outside port areas, the Coastal Waters Safeguarding Authority would respond. Port and industrial facilities are expected to have their own contingency plans, co-ordinated with the NCP, and would respond to spills within their jurisdiction. For intermediate spills, the Coastal Headquarters of Civil Defence would respond. Spills of a larger magnitude would involve the Republic Headquarters of Civil Defence.

Response Policy

Mechanical recovery at sea and shoreline clean-up are the preferred response strategy. The use of dispersants is prohibited in Slovenia due to the shallowness of Slovenian waters.
