ITOPF has responded to more than 800 incidents involving oil or chemical spills worldwide. Our highly skilled international team are ready to assist 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to provide impartial technical advice.

We operate on a not-for-profit basis and provide a wide range of technical services to promote effective response in the marine environment to back up our core role of responding to ship-sourced spills. Our five key services are spill response, claims analysis & damage assessment, contingency planning, training & education and information.

Data and Applications Specialist – London based

Data and Applications Specialist – London based

The Role   

This will be a new role for the organisation, focussing on improving our data flows and developing productivity applications. The specialist will require a versatility and breadth of technical skills.

Collaborating across functions, including working closely with the IT Systems Manager is vital to help identify business process improvements, designing data pipelines and leveraging cloud platforms, building intuitive applications and automations to simplify the workflows, and advise on emerging technologies and opportunities.

 Skills and Experience  

The role will require someone accustomed to independently driving initiatives based on the agreed priorities in wide-ranging skills from data management to user experience.

This role would be suited to highly experienced candidates who want to hit the ground running and make a real impact at an organisation with over 55 years history. With the pace of technology changing, this is an exciting time to really make a difference in how we leverage data and applications within the organisation and beyond.

As well as a starting salary circa £60,000, we offer a fantastic benefits package, in health and welfare, flexible working hours, and continuous training.   

This is anticipated to be a full-time hybrid role, but we are open to part-time for the right candidate.

The Role   

This role involves attending on site at oil and chemical spills globally, delivering advice to international governments and other parties. You will be assessing claims for compensation, undertaking regular presentations and running workshops as part of our preparedness and education work.  

 Skills and Experience  

A key requirement of this role is a higher degree in science, engineering or a related discipline, strong written and oral presentation skills and excellent interpersonal skills; as well as availability to travel at emergency short notice. Relevant practical experience in a scientific/ technical role is important and pollution control experience is a distinct advantage, as is fluency in a second language to English, preferably Mandarin, but also of interest would be Malay, Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese or Korean.
