ITOPF has responded to more than 800 incidents involving oil or chemical spills worldwide. Our highly skilled international team are ready to assist 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to provide impartial technical advice.
We operate on a not-for-profit basis and provide a wide range of technical services to promote effective response in the marine environment to back up our core role of responding to ship-sourced spills. Our five key services are spill response, claims analysis & damage assessment, contingency planning, training & education and information.
We are currently advertising for the following role:
Technical Adviser
Technical Adviser (Marine Pollution) - with extensive worldwide travel
The Role
This role involves travelling worldwide to attend oil, chemical and other pollutant spills, delivering advice to international governments and other parties. You will be assessing claims for compensation, delivering regular presentations and running workshops as part of our preparedness and education work.
Skills and Experience
A key requirement of this role is a higher degree in science, engineering or a related discipline, strong written and oral presentation skills and excellent interpersonal skills; as well as availability to travel at emergency short notice. Relevant practical experience in a scientific/technical role is important and pollution control experience is a distinct advantage, as is fluency in a second language to English, particularly French, Spanish, Portuguese or Mandarin.
