Competent National Authority
A competent authority does not appear to have been designated.
Response Arrangements
No response organisation exists and there are no local or national contingency plans.
Response Policy
No oil spill response policy has been defined. However, defensive booming of extensive, sensitive coastal mud and marsh and important areas of mangrove swamp should be a priority in any response. Dispersant use should be influenced by the predominance of the fishing industry.
Equipment
Government
Only basic resources are likely to be available to combat spills, possibly from the port, public works department, agricultural and commercial sources. These resources combined with labour for cleaning shorelines would probably provide the most effective response.
Private
There do not appear to have been any major spills in Guinea-Bissau waters.
Previous Spill Experience
There do not appear to have been any major spills in Guinea-Bissau waters.
