INTERSPILL 2018, London, 13-15 March 2018

13/03/2018 - 15/03/2018

ITOPF will be involved in several activities at Interspill 2018.

On Monday 12th March, the Oil Spill Fundamentals Course jointly delivered by OSRL and ITOPF will introduce delegates to the first principles of responding to oil spills, including the key techniques in the responder toolkit and the principles and concepts that allow responders to determine the most appropriate strategy for a particular scenario. The concept of net environmental benefit analysis (NEBA) will be used to explore how decision makers can select response strategies that work with natural processes, and avoid causing more harm to the environment. Case studies will be used to demonstrate how these concepts have been applied in real incidents, and the lessons learned as a result.

ITOPF and Cedre will be running a series of free-to-attend Science Workshops in the Exhibition Floor Theatre, each consisting of three presentations of the latest industry developments followed by an interactive chaired discussion. The workshops will cover Shoreline Survey, HNS Pollution, Response in Cold Environments and Marine Pollution Impacts.

During the opening Plenary session on Tuesday 13th March, ITOPF will present a White Paper on Environmental Damage, which will explore the evolution of how this issue has been defined and dealt with over the past 50 years of oil spill response. David Campion and Susannah Domaille will present a paper on the use of UAVs in spill response (Surveillance in Practice, 13th March). Ann Zhang's paper in the Effective Preparedness session (13th March) will consider Environmental Damage Compensation in China Following Ship-Sourced Oil Spills. ITOPF will also be chairing this session. On 15th March, Nicola Beer will give an overview of Recent Marine Ship Source Spills attended by ITOPF in the Case Studies Session.

Come and visit us at our stand, S201.
