Nicola Beer will be attending MEDEXPOL 2018, the regional workshop on response to spill incidents involving Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS). This is being organised by REMPEC and co-financed by the Mediterranean Trust Fund (MTF) and the IMO's Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme. The principal objectives of the workshop are:
1 to examine and agree upon draft guidelines on the risk of gaseous releases resulting from marine incidents;
2 to agree on the way forward for a joint inter-regional effort for updating response manuals for HNS spills; and
3 to provide an overview of achievements and ongoing work on guidelines and tools related to HNS and the way forward for future developments.
Nicola Beer will be presenting a paper on "Challenges of responding to HNS incidents and lessons learned" on Day 1 of the event.
