Driving Innovation in LSFO Spill Response: ITOPF Shares Expertise at Malta Conferences

Low sulphur fuel oils (LSFO) and their behaviour in marine environments when released is a key topic emerging in the marine pollution response industry.

ITOPF joined maritime stakeholders in Malta to share insights on oil spill preparedness and response at the IMAROS-2 Final Conference and the Maritime World International Conference & Expo.

Representing ITOPF, Amy Jewell contributed to a panel discussion on “Operational aspects of LSFO response”, sharing practical experience from real-world oil spill scenarios.

Discussions at IMAROS-2 highlighted the need for innovation in spill response techniques, with new skimmer systems and heated pump solutions expected in 2026. Collaboration remains central to progress, and ITOPF joined conversations on shoreline response and operational guidelines.

While Maritime World explored decarbonisation and sustainability trends, IMAROS-2 reinforced the importance of technical preparedness and knowledge-sharing for effective spill response.
