ITOPF delivers workshop to Masters students at World Maritime University
17 June 2025

Two of ITOPF's Technical Advisers made a trip to the World Maritime University in Malmo, Sweden, to deliver a workshop on pollution spill response and preparedness to Masters students in the MSEA, Maritime Safety & Environmental Administration course.
Marta Panero and Pippa Howarth delivered a series of presentations covering how responses to pollution differ if at-sea or on the shoreline, including the properties and behaviour of oil when released into the marine environment.
Following these discussions, they led a table-top workshop where students were tasked with managing the response to a spill of oil in a mock scenario. This exercise included the use of ITOPF's Virtual and Mixed Reality (VR & MR) applications, immersing users in an aerial surveillance overflight and plotting clean-up resources in a virtual marine environment.
