ITOPF invited to Türkiye to attend its 4th Maritime Summit and engage with regional key stakeholders

ITOPF Technical Director, Richard Johnson, was invited to Türkiye by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Republic of Turkey. While there, discussions were held with senior officials in both the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and the Directorate General of Coastal Safety, with future opportunities for collaboration in preparedness and response identified between ITOPF and these organisations.

This initiative enabled the re-establishment of links ITOPF has with stakeholders in the region, including the Türk P&I Sigorta A.Ş. Club and MEKE spill contractor, to reaffirm our working relationships.

ITOPF spoke at the 4th Maritime Summit in Türkiye which was addressed by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, many other high ranking officials along and senior international representation from International Maritime Organization, ICS, BIMCO and the Paris MoU.

Richard spoke about marine shipping pollution by homing in on emerging trends such as changing global risk profiles resulting from geopolitical concerns, as well as those pertinent to the region, climate change, along with carbon zero initiatives in the maritime world, and shared perennial concerns exhibited in recent oil and non-oil related cases attended by ITOPF.

ITOPF was also hosted by the Directorate General of Coastal Safety for a visit to the National Maritime Response Centre, where ITOPF were able to benefit from understanding the Republic of Türkiye’s response capabilities from this facility.
