ITOPF joins Korean-Asean Spill Forum and hosts workshop in Yeosu, Korea
25 November 2025
ITOPF's experience in responding to marine pollution incidents for more than half a century has enabled it to witness the changing landscape of pollution response.
ITOPF shared its views on this topic, with a focus on incidents involving Hazardous Noxious Substances (HNS) at the Korea-Asean Spill Forum hosted by the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) in Yeosu, Korea.
The forum was hosted alongside representatives of NOWPAP MERRAC, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, U.S. Coast Guard, GI SEA, and OSRL.
Following the forum, attendees participated in the annual ITOPF-led workshop, which takes on a new focus with each iteration. This year, the core training on oil spill response was complemented with sessions on responding to HNS incidents, including case studies and our ship-source pollution response table-top exercise.
The workshop covered response to plastic pellet spills and key considerations for incidents involving containerships, including discussions on waste removal, storage and disposal.
